Bottled water coolers are fast becoming a thing of the past as the government prepares to implement mains-connected water coolers across the NHS. Reflecting growing levels of awareness, a recent report indicated that there has been a prominent shift from bottled to mains-fed water coolers. With environmental and economic benefits in mind, the government is now in the process of implementing mains-fed water coolers on a wider scale across the NHS with a view to spreading supplies across the public sector.
According to a recent report, there are currently 17,000 bottled water coolers and 3000 mains-fed water cooler machines spread across the NHS. Transforming a majority of the 17,000 into mains-fed water cooler machines will of course mean good news for industry suppliers, however the government has stressed that responsibility for distribution will be spread via public as well as private sector organisations.
Pressure Coolers is one of the UK’s key suppliers of POU mains-connected water cooler systems and has witnessed the change from bottled water coolers to mains water cooler systems as people begin to realise benefits both environmental and economic. Private sector organizations have been making waves on a much smaller scale over many years, yet awareness of the benefits on a mainstream level has taken some time. According to Pressure Coolers, mains-connected water coolers have been around for at least 30 years, but to raise awareness of the benefits has been a gradual process. “There are now over a thousand delivery trucks cruising around the streets of the UK delivering bottles of water to Bottle Watercooler users” says Matthew Mitchison, Managing Director of Pressure Coolers. “The environmental benefits in terms of reducing both pollution and congestion by switching over to Mains Connected Watercoolers and getting these vehicles off our roads are strikingly evident, quite apart from the reduced costs and other advantages to be had”
From contributing to the positive health of patients in hospitals and care centres to helping NHS staff to provide a much more efficient service, government level implementation will result in a number of benefits.
While many of us take water as a resource for granted, there are those who are home-bound, ill and elderly, and who have found bottled water to be nothing short of an inconvenience. On the other hand, areas where facilities have been poor have meant others have no choice but to depend on chemical-ridden tap water. The implementation of fresh clean, mains-connected water, particularly as it develops from the NHS across into the public sector on a wider scale - will become a practical God-send, particularly for those who need it most.
